Pangaia unveils T-Shirt Made From 100% Recycled Textile Waste

Pangaia, a material science innovator, has shown a T-Shirt made from 100% Infinna, a recycled textile material. The new T-Shirt was launched on April 5 and this makes it the first shirt made available for purchase made with 100% Infinna which has a soft and natural look and feel of cotton.

Infinna is created from cotton-rich textile waste that is broken down at the molecular level so that the cellulose in the cotton can be captured and be reborn as new fibres. Because it’s made of cellulose, a building block of all plants, Infinna is biodegradable and keeps biomass in circulation.

This showcases that biodegradable textile raw material could act as a replacement for current material without compromising quality and feel. Another important factor is this material makes it possible to make a T-Shirt from entirely recycled textile, making the apparel industry closer to a circular model.

The Pangaia Lab Powered by Infinited Fiber collection features the ‘Infinite Tee’ that comes in both a short sleeve and long sleeve design with a graphic inspired by circularity. The limited-edition products launch on April 5 only on Pangaia.com, with the T-shirt retailing for 75 US dollars and the long-sleeve shirt for 85 US dollars.

This initiative creates a new opportunity for the fashion industry to change the current model to a new sustainable and circular model. At the same time, forward-thinking manufacturers can do further research on recyclable materials to enhance their capability to be ready for the future. Fashion Brands are committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2050.
