Export earning for the month of February 2022 has climbed to $4.29 billion. YoY growth for February is 34.54 %. Export earning of this year’s February is highest in the last 10 years. The export target for this month was $3.61 billion.
From July 2021 to February 2022, the first eight months of the current fiscal year Bangladesh earned $33.84 billion from export, a growth of 30.86 % (YoY).
As is the norm, the garment sector contributed the highest in the period. Garment exports grew 30.73 per cent to $27.49 billion between July and February. Among this knitwear fetched $15.06 billion by registering a growth of 32.87 per cent year-on-year. At the same time, earnings from woven items grew by 28.23 per cent year-on-year to reach $12.42 billion.
In July-February, textile exports grew 35.98 per cent to $993.76 million while leather and leather goods shipments increased 29.61 per cent to 784.98 million.
Experts expressed concern about next month's export earnings as the current Russia-Ukraine war could impact export earnings. BGMEA & BKMEA has advised factory owners to stop taking orders from Russia due to the uncertainty of payment.
